What is Diwali?
Diwali is the festival of lights. It is
India’s biggest and most important holiday of the year.
When is Diwali?

What do people do on Diwali?
Day 1: Clean homes and do some shopping.

Day 3: It is the main day of the festival. People open their doors and windows to invite Lakshmi in. Families gather together to watch fi reworks.
Day 4: Families will prepare food at home for when guests come to exchange gifts.
Day 5: Brothers visit their married sisters.Sisters prepare meals for their brothers at home.

藍果麗地畫(rangoli)
藍果麗是印度的一種傳統地畫藝術,一般用手工繪制于家門口或廟門口。相傳很久以前,有一個王國的公主丟失了她心愛的項鏈,于是國王就通令全國:誰找到項鏈就重重有賞。項鏈被一個樵夫找到后,送回了王宮。國王很高興,就問樵夫要什么金銀財寶。樵夫說:“我不要什么財寶,只要您下令,明天晚上除了我家之外都不準點燈?!眹蹼m然覺得這個要求很奇怪,但還是答應了下來。原來,這個晚上正是財富女神拉什米一年一度下凡的日子。當拉什米女神來到王國,只見到處一片漆黑,只有樵夫家門口點了盞小油燈吸引她的目光,地上用米粉畫出了個小腳印為她引路。拉什米毫不猶豫,直奔樵夫家。女神目光所到之處,財源滾滾而來。女神給樵夫一家帶來財運,樵夫從此過上了好日子。從此,家家效仿,畫藍果麗地畫和點油燈的習俗也就流傳了下來。
