Sunstroke is a condition that can quickly go from dangerous to deadly, especially if proper care isn't given immediately.

Sunstroke, sometimes called heatstroke,is a result of the body temperature rising above the safe limit. This causes the body's necessary functions to stop working.

It's usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke,as long as proper action is taken. In that case, you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person's body to a safe temperature. Here are a few tips to help treat sunstroke.

Call for help

Call to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do,especially if the sunstroke person has fainted (昏倒).Also, call for help from anyone nearby if you're in a public place. If there's no one around, call someone nearby if they can get there sooner than an ambulance.Ask someone to bring you as much water as possible,if there isn't much nearby.

Get the person to a cooler area

If there's a building nearby, aim for that.Anywhere with plenty of air conditioners and water is perfect. If a building isn't available, bring the person to a well-shaded area.

Get the water flowing

If the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there's a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it.

If your water supply is limited, you have to save it.Dampen a towel or a shirt and put it on the person's body.Focus on the face, neck, and chest.

Fan the person

Getting moving air over the person cools him or her down.Use anything,a towel or a sheet,a shirt, your hands,or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps,as they can combine to fan the entire body.

One in five adults in the US lives with a mental health problem according to the National Institute of Mental Health, but most don't look for professional help. That's where Mental Health First Aid—an eight-hour workshop hopes to fill the gap.The class trains everyday citizens how to recognize the signs of various mental illnesses and how to respond in different situations.

Karen VonDeylen,an instructor at the Maumee Valley Guidance Center, says the popularity of the class exploded this year, with 20 workshops offered since last summer.“We've seen a lot of companies and organizations get excited about it.”

“Whenever we notice an unexpected change in personal cleanliness, that could be a really good sign that something's going on,”instructor BJ Horner told the class. For depression, the physical signs include lack of energy, sleeping too little, and overeating or loss of appetite.

Class participants were shown how to calm someone going through a panic attack by having them focus on a particular color or sound. When someone is really struggling, the trainers say asking if someone is thinking of harming themselves is actually a big lifesaver.Another key point is you shouldn't offer advice. You should listen non-judgmentally.

“I was so uninformed.I was one of those people who said,‘Get over it.Improve your situation yourself and carry on.’When somebody says something—pay attention to what they are saying,”says class participant Peggy Oyer, who lost her brother 11 years ago.

A week after taking the class,HR manager Tina Bost met with an employee who had missed work. She remembers asking,“Do you think you're depressed?”He cried and said,“Sometimes I don't want to get out of bed.I guess maybe I'm depressed.”Bost asked if he had been thinking about harming himself—something, she says, she would never have asked anybody in the past. His answer was yes.Bost says the employee is now getting treatment and taking medicine.“He is doing much better.I'm glad I asked.”

8.What does VonDeylen probably think of the program?

A.It faces many difficulties.

B.It proves to be successful.

C.It is in need of governmental support.

D.It has reached professional standards.

9.Which of the following is mentioned as a sign of mental health problems?

A.Focusing on a particular color or sound.

B.A continual state of being overexcited.

C.A sudden increase in one's untidiness.

D.Losing one's feelings at once.

10.What does Peggy Oyer seem to strongly express?

A.The value of effective information.

B.The need to prevent mental illnesses.

C.The importance of listening without judgment.

D.The disadvantages of the Mental Health First Aid classes.

11.How does the employee probably feel about Tina Bost now?

Many years ago,my father, who was 80 at that time, arrived for his regular two-week visit at my home in Karachi. He lived with my elder brother in Lahore most of the time and for ten years stuck to his habit of going for an hour-long morning walk to keep fit.In Lahore,he would walk around a park that is quite close to my brother's house.Naturally,he was keen to continue his morning walk while with us in Karachi.

Our preferred park is a 2 kilometers' walk from my house and it has a 1 kilometer's walking track.I could not drive him there every day as I had to leave for the office at the same time he wanted to set out.Since there are hardly any footpaths in Karachi,my father said he was delighted to walk on the road as he was certain there wouldn't be much traffic in the morning.

I was less confident so I suggested it would be safer if he changed his walk time to the evening. That way I could take him to the park after work. However,my father—a determined person—said that he could not change his routine for just a few days and insisted that he would be leaving the house every day at 7 am and returning by 8 am.He started doing this and stuck firmly to his schedule. So one day when he had not returned by 8:30 am,my wife,Qaisa, phoned me in a panic.Worried,I immediately drove home, taking the same route that my father would have taken for his walk.

Not spotting him anywhere,I went to the police station to report my father's disappearance. The station house officer advised me to wait until midnight before filling the report.Since it was only 10 am,I drove back to the park,in the hope of discovering some trace, but in vain.Totally at a loss for what to do next,I returned home and waited impatiently, walking back and forth in the house.

注意:續寫詞數應為150左右。

Paragraph 1:

At10:35am the doorbell rang and my father stood outside the door smiling, accompanied by a young man._____________________________
