- 大西洋上層200米有逾千萬噸微塑料垃圾
-2100萬噸微塑料垃圾，僅對其中3種最多的塑料進行定量分析，整個大西洋中的塑料數量遠遠高于以前確定的數量。此前，因缺乏來自微塑料積累系統的可靠量化數據，阻礙了對微塑料積累所造成的生態和環境損害的評估。根據1950-2015年塑料垃圾的產生趨勢，并假設大西洋在65年中持續接收了全球塑料垃圾的一部分，大西洋水域和沉積物中的塑料輸入量估計為1700萬-4700萬噸。目前存在的塑料總質量與1950年以來輸入的塑料估計量持平，甚至可能超過。
