(Richard is angry about his work status, he want to resign, Shirley tries to persuade him to stay.)

Richard: I've really had it up to here with that idiot! As soon as I get done drafting this resignation letter, I'm out of here!

Shirley: Richard no! Take some time to calm down and think about it first. You.

Richard: No way! I've made up my mind. I'm not taking anymore crap. I didn't put in six years at this company, work my arse-off, give up two years worth of holidays, just to see Mark get promoted by taking credit for my work! Enough is enough! Right now, he's even eating lunch with the directors!

Shirley: I know your anger Richard, but seriously think about it. You have a mortgage and kids to think of. Where are you going to find another middle management job in this environment? We're in the middle of a recession for crying out loud!

Richard: I'll find one.

Shirley: Oh yeah, that's a realistic attitude.

Richard: Hey, it's alright for you. You're still young and your planning on becoming a stay-at-home mum in one year anyway. This promotion was my last chance to get up the ladder before my age starts to work against me.

Shirley: So don't just leave! Fight for it!

Richard: Fight? Against Mark, the guy recommended for the promotion by his good drinking buddy, our retiring local manager Fredrick. Mark, the Boss's son's best friend. That Mark? Yeah, right, and you tell me to be realistic.

Shirley: Just tell the Boss what happened.

Richard: Yes, I can see it now. 'Hey Boss, all those great analysis reports that your mate Mark handed in, well they're actually mine. You see, I didn't realise that the temp-secretary we hired while Shirley was away on maternity leave was sleeping with him. Turns out she was passing him all my work rather than giving it to you'. Yeah, I've no chance.

Shirley: Believe it or not, I do actually know what I'm talking about. Secretaries do hear all the juicy gossip you know.

Richard: How's that going to help me? Gossip, as in…

Shirley: As in, the Boss only gave Mark a job because he was his son's friend, it wasn't a free ride. He told him he had one year to perform or be fired. The Boss really doesn't like him.

Richard: So why did he promote him then?

Shirley: Because the Boss is first and foremost a business man. As far as he's concerned Mark performed and brought in the goods. So he just put aside his personal feelings. Miranda even heard him say, 'I can't believe I'm going to have to promote that prick'.

Richard: Really? He said that?

Shirley: Yes. So will you please think about what you are doing? There must be a better solution.

Richard: I don't know…I could…no…

Shirley: What about your superior knowledge of the reports?

Richard: No, Mark will have research the appendix and memorised all the material front to back. I don't like to give him any credit, but his memory's amazing.

Richard: Wait, I've got it! Code!

Shirley: Code?

Richard: I printed out all my reports in my office. Modern printers all leave a unique invisible code on the paper and there'll also be a record on our main servers. It'll prove I wrote them.

Shirley: What if Mark just re-printed them on his printer?

Richard: He's too lazy for that. He probably just changed and printed the front cover. I better check the print history on his computer to be safe though. (goes to check) We're golden!

Shirley: So I take it you're not leaving then?

Richard: You know, I don't think I will. Though as for Mark…

Shirley: That's the spirit. Gom, get him!
