“Please open the tap”是對還是錯

本期的英文坑，我們同樣總結了五個跟生活相關的英文句子，結合同學們實際生活的一些經歷，也能讓大家更好地理解這些表達背后的區別。接下來我們先自行試著翻譯一下下面這五句話，看看你會不會又中招！

1. 請打開水龍頭。

中國式：Please open the tap.

美國式：Please turn on the tap.

雖然“open”和“turn on”都有“打開”的意思，但是打開的對象是有區別的?！皁pen”打開的對象主要是門窗、書本、各種容器或身體部位，比如“open the book”“open the door”“open the bottle”和“open the mouth”等?！皌urn on”打開的對象主要跟家用的水、電、燃氣或電子設備相關，比如“turn on the TV”“turn on the light”“turn on the computer”等。

2. 不要踐踏草坪。

中國式：Dont step on the grass.

美國式：Keep off the grass.

標識牌上的標語目的是讓人們遠離某個區域，這個區域可能是保護某些事物，也可能是禁區，禁止閑雜人等進入。在這種情況下，表示“不要踐踏”時更習慣使用的是“keep off”或是“keep away”，意思是“麻煩您遠離草坪”，語氣會更平和委婉。

3. 我將要嫁給約翰了。

中國式：Im going to marry with John.

美國式：Im going to marry John.

英文中沒有所謂的“嫁”和“娶”的概念，“marry”就表示結婚（也就意味嫁娶一體不分家）。所以，“I marry you”可以表示我娶你，也可以表示我嫁給你。而且“marry”這個詞不能說成“I marry with you”，可以直接表達成“marry somebody”。比如，“She married a French”表示的是“她嫁給了一個法國人”，“He married an American”表示的是“他娶了一個美國人”。

4. 我把我包落車里了。

中國式：I forgot my handbag in the taxi.

美國式：I left my handbag in the taxi.

“forget”的常用搭配是“forget to do something”，所以用在這不合適?！發eave”有“離開”的意思，但也可以表示“遺留”，且記得要用“leave”的過去式“left”。比如，“I left the book on the table when I went out last night”的意思就是“昨晚我出門的時候，把書本遺留在了桌子上”。

5. 我們從第五頁開始。

中國式：Lets begin from page 5.

美國式：Lets begin on page 5.

貌似“from”是正確的，但是大家思考一下，“begin”是個瞬間動作，而“from”一般要和“to”連接表示“從哪里到哪里”的一個移動軌跡，所以“from”用在這不對。在此情境之下，我們真正要說的其實是“從某個點開始”，“on”才是正確的表達。這和我們之前分享的“太陽從東方升起”有異曲同工之妙。
